Israel hits military bases in Iran's Isfahan:Tehran opens Hormuz for India, China, 3 other ‘friendly nations’

Today marks the 27th day of the US-Israel-Iran war. The Israeli military said they have launched a wave of ‘extensive strikes’ on the Iranian regime. The attacks targeted the city of Isfahan in central Iran.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran has permitted vessels from ‘friendly countries,’ including India, China, Russia, Iraq and Pakistan, to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has previously stated that the Strait of Hormuz is not completely closed. The passage is only closed to countries hostile to Iran. Other countries are allowed to pass under certain conditions.

Iran has rejected a US ceasefire proposal, stating it will not end the conflict on the terms set by President Donald Trump.

According to Iranian officials, the proposal conveyed through mediating countries is “deceptive”, out of touch with realities on the ground, and aimed primarily at exerting pressure. Tehran has made it clear that any cessation of hostilities will depend on its own conditions being met.

Iran has outlined five key demands:

  1. A complete halt to attacks and targeted killings against Iran
  2. Firm guarantees to prevent any future conflict
  3. Compensation for war-related damages
  4. A full cessation of hostilities across all fronts
  5. International recognition of Iran’s rights over the Strait of Hormuz

Iran further stated it will continue its retaliatory measures until these conditions are fulfilled, accusing the US of repeatedly shifting its stance while maintaining that Tehran’s position remains consistent.

United States has sent a 15 point plan to Iran

The United States has presented Iran with a 15 point proposal to end the war. The plan was delivered to Tehran via Pakistan.

According to a report by The New York Times, the proposal includes key issues such as Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programmes, as well as maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. Pakistan’s army chief is reportedly playing a key role as a mediator in these talks.

America has placed the following conditions before Iran

  1. A halt to the nuclear programme and a guarantee not to develop nuclear weapons.
  2. Limit or completely stop uranium enrichment and hand over stockpiles to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
  3. Strict controls or curtailment of ballistic and cruise missile programmes.
  4. Fully open the Strait of Hormuz and ensure safe passage for global shipping.
  5. Provide international agencies with full and unconditional access to all nuclear sites.
  6. Limit or eliminate major nuclear facilities such as Natanz, Fordo, and Isfahan.
  7. Reduce or stop support to Hezbollah and other allied militias.
  8. Reduce military activities and attacks in the region to ease tensions.
  9. Implement a ceasefire for a fixed period to allow talks to proceed.
  10. Provide firm international guarantees to prevent future wars.
  11. Ensure the security of maritime and energy infrastructure.
  12. Limit Iran’s missile range and restrict its use to self defence only.
  13. In return, the proposal offers the complete or phased lifting of economic sanctions on Iran.
  14. It also includes international cooperation in civilian nuclear programmes and the energy sector.
  15. Finally, it outlines the implementation of a long term roadmap for stability and peace in the Middle East.
